Due to the huge lack of student rooms, houses and rooms in Ghent are very expensive at this moment. Not only the students but also the families living in Ghent are the victim of the laxity of the government who doesn’t deal with this growing lack. Students try to hire cheaper by hiring a house together with five or six students and split the rent which results in a higher rent than an average family can afford. A solution such as in the Netherlands, where the government provides extra student rooms in containers, has in Belgium been slid on the long job.
